Common Scams to Avoid
At Entebbe International Airport, arriving passengers are often approached by unofficial porters who insist on carrying bags a few metres to the taxi stand, then demand inflated fees. Firmly decline any unsolicited help and keep your luggage in hand until you reach the official taxi queue.
Some airport-based taxi touts quote fares in US dollars at rates far above the local meter equivalent. Insist on using the official airport taxi service with a printed fare chart or walk to the nearby main road to hail a metered cab.
Currency-exchange booths inside the arrivals hall may advertise 'no commission' yet apply a markedly poorer rate than banks in town. Change only a small amount for immediate needs and compare rates at the downtown forex bureaus later.
